The Bungle Bungle Range, in Purnululu National Park, is one of the most fascinating geological landmarks in Western Australia. Few Europeans knew of its existence until the mid-1980s - after the range was stumbled upon by a film crew in 1983. Word spread quickly of this stunningly unique discovery and it became established as Purnululu National Park in 1987. Nowadays the astounding beauty of this wild assortment of gorges, canyons and towering rocky domes attracts travelers from every corner of the globe.
Majestic sandstone domes are highly characteristic of the Bungle Bungle Range. Beehive-shaped and in orange and black stripes, they soar more than 250 metres into the air and stretch to the horizon in an intricate maze of dusty red rocks. Amongst the imposing rocky outcrops of the range a hidden world of gorges and pools is revealed. Purnululus sheltered gorges protect the most southerly patches of rainforest found in the Kimberley region and are the home to several rare plant, animal and bird species - some of which are found nowhere else in the world.

Directions: The turn off to the park is 250 kilometres south of Kununurra or 109 kilometres north of Halls Creek. Road access is strictly four wheel drive only and it is preferred that drivers are experienced and vehicles well equipped. |
